Please read these terms and conditions carefully before using the BPS Shop. By using the BPS Shop website, you are signifying your agreement to these Terms and Conditions.

Conference and event bookings

  1. Only one booking for a specific event can be made per login account. Additional bookings require a separate login account.
  2. All bookings must be received at least 30 days before the event takes place. Bookings will be accepted and confirmed when payment has been received and processed. You will receive a confirmation email.
  3. Cancellations: You may cancel any booking by giving us notice in writing.

    If you cancel within 7 working days of submitting your booking, you will receive a full refund of any monies paid in advance. We will refund you on the credit card or debit card used by you to pay.

    If you cancel after 7 working days of submitting your booking, you will incur a £15 administration charge and a cancellation fee will be charged based upon the date of notification as follows:

    (i) For BPS Conferences:
    (1) Less than 1 calender month prior to the event start date - 100% of the price charged for the event
    (ii) For other Society events (including BPS Learning Centre event):
    (1) Less than 2 calender months and more than 1 calender month prior to the event start date - 30% of the price charged for the event
    (2) Up to 1 calender month prior to the event start date - 100% of the price charged for the event
  4. Substitutions: You may change the name of the booking up to the booking deadline by contacting us in writing or by emailing the Conferences Team (conferences@bps.org.uk). You will be required to pay a £15 administration charge and any difference in booking fees paid if the original fee was lower than that applicable to the new attendee. You may not share an event package with any other individual.
  5. All fees include VAT at the standard UK rate. Our VAT registration number is 240 393776.
  6. By providing personal information on the online booking form, you are agreeing to the Society processing and holding it for the purposes stated in our Data Protection Act registration.
  7. The email address you provide on the registration form may be used by the British Psychological Society to communicate with you in matters relating to your conference registration (and if you are a member of the British Psychological Society, in other matters relating to your Society membership).
  8. Force majeure; The British Psychological Society will not be liable for any failure to provide or delay in the provision, all services, as a result of events or matters outside its control.
  9. Our cancellation rights:

    (a) We may have to cancel an event due to an event outside our control; the unavailability of key personnel or key materials; or low booking numbers for an event. We will notify you of such a cancellation as soon as reasonably possible.

    (b) If we have to cancel an event for any of the reasons set out in clause (a) above and you have made any payment in advance of the event, we will, at our sole option, either refund these amounts to you or offer to transfer you to a different event.

    (c) For the purposes of our cancellation rights, events outside our control means any act or event beyond our reasonable control, including without limitation: strikes, lock-outs or other industrial action by third parties, civil commotion, riot, invasion, terrorist attack or threat of terrorist attach, war (whether declared or not) or threat or preparation for war, fire, explosion, storm, flood, earthquake, subsidence, epidemic or other natural disaster, or failure of public or private telecommunications networks.
  10. The Society reserves the right to make changes to event programmes / speakers if it becomes necessary due to circumstances beyond our control.

Document downloads

  1. Documents will be available to the user to download for a period of 48 hours from the time that payment is received. If you encounter problems downloading a document, please contact the Customer Service Team for support.
  2. Documents available to download match the original hard copy published versions as closely as possible.
  3. The document download service is provided ‘as is’ with no warranties implied, either express of implied.
  4. The British Psychological Society is the copyright holder for all documents available to download from this website, unless otherwise stated.
  5. Unauthorised copying, distribution, public display, public performance, and derivative works from downloaded documents are prohibited by copyright law.
  6. You may reproduce any downloaded document as many times as you wish for personal use, or quote short sections short sections for the purposes of criticism review, under the terms of ‘fair dealing’.

e-Learning Courses

  1. The email address you provide as part of your account information may be passed to the third party supplying the e-Learning course, and access to the e-Learning course may be based upon this email address through the My Account area of the Online Shop.

  3. By providing personal information on the ‘checkout’ page, you are agreeing to the Society processing and holding it for the purposes stated in our Data Protection Act registration.

Dispatch and delivery of goods

  1. All prices are inclusive of postage and packaging unless otherwise stated.
  2. You should receive an email confirming your order as soon as your payment has been processed.
  3. Orders will normally be dispatched within a maximum of 5 working days. If your order is likely to take longer than this to process, we will let you know as soon as possible.
  4. If you place an order for a subscription to The Psychologist or any other periodical, your first issue will be sent as soon as it has been published, in accordance with the normal publishing cycle for the specific publication.
  5. You may cancel your order at any time prior to dispatch of goods by contacting our Help Desk. Any payment you have made will be refunded within 30 days.
  6. UK orders will be dispatched by Royal Mail 2nd Class or Standard Parcel service. Overseas orders will be sent by Airmail printed papers.
  7. Both UK and overseas orders are normally delivered within 3-5 working days from the date of posting. However, we cannot guarantee when you will receive delivery as we have no control over 3rd party mailing companies. If you believe your item has been lost in the post, please contact our Help Desk.
  8. All orders will be delivered to the address you have registered to use the Shop (for Society members, this will normally be your usual membership address).

Returns policy

  1. Please contact our Help Desk if you would like to return an item.
  2. You may return an item for a refund or exchange if the product is damaged or faulty, a duplicate or incorrect item has been sent, or you change your mind.
  3. Unwanted items must be returned in original condition within 7 working days of being received.
  4. Damaged, incorrect or duplicate items must be returned within 30 days of receipt.
  5. Subscriptions to The Psychologist and other periodicals can be cancelled up to seven working days after the first issue has been received by the customer. Unfortunately, it is not possible to cancel a subscription after this time until the full period of the subscription has expired. Subscriptions last for twelve months unless otherwise stated. You will be sent a renewal form to complete at the end of this period.
  6. Refunds will be paid to the account that you used to make the purchase within 30 days of the goods being returned.

Customer accounts

  1. Customers are responsible for making sure that their account details (e.g. email and postal address) are up-to-date.
  2. Customers are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of their username and password, and preventing authorised access to their accounts.
  3. Users must inform the Help Desk immediately if they suspect that their password has become known to someone else or has been (or is likely to be) use in an authorised manner.
  4. Users agree to accept responsibility for all activity that occurs under their username or password.

Description, price and availability of goods

  1. Every effort will be made to ensure that the description and price of products and services are correct at the time of purchase.
  2. Product images are for illustrative purposes only and may differ from the actual product.
  3. Stock levels are regularly monitored and we do our best to supply all goods ordered. In the rare case that a mistake is made, we will offer a full refund as soon as practically possible.

Product reviews and customer comments

  1. The British Psychological Society is not responsible for the contents of product reviews or customer comments provided by third parties. If you have a complain about the content, please contact the Help Desk.
  2. User comments and customer review must not contain any of the following:
  • Content which could be construed as unfairly discriminatory against anyone based on race, ethnic origin, skin colour, national origin, religion, disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender, physical appearance or age (whether a legal requirement in the UK or not).
  • Ad hominem, ad feminam and ad virum arguments against people or groups (i.e. those based on prejudice rather than logic).
  • Anything that may be considered to contravene the British Psychological Society’s Code of Ethics and Conduct.
  • Material that may encourage violence or bullying.
  • Any content which is potentially libellous.
  • Obscenities and profanity.

(b) We have no liability to you for any loss of profit, loss of business, business interruption, or loss of business opportunity in connection with or in any way arising out of your booking with us.

(c) We do not exclude or limit in any way our liability for:
(i) death or personal injury caused by our negligence or the negligence of our employees, agents or subcontractors; or
(ii) fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

How we may use your personal information:

By providing your personal information when purchasing a product via the BPS Online Shop you are agreeing to us processing and holding it for the purposes of the purchase, processing your payment, and informing you about similar products / services that we provide. Further information about these purposes can be found in our Privacy Policy at www.bps.org.uk

Other important terms:

(a) These Terms are between you and us and no other person shall have any rights to enforce them.

(b) These Terms and any disputes or claims relating to them are governed by English law. You and we both agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.

As a consumer, you have legal rights in relation to services that are not provided as described. Advice about your legal rights is available from your local Citizens' Advice Bureau or Trading Standards office. Nothing in these Terms will affect these legal rights.
